The air rung with the hearts of passionate musicians and groovy jams last Saturday night at Sales Bar Tekanplor at what was once again, an awesome and downright chilled night hosted by no other than LIEU Magazine

To kick off LIEU’s 4th issue launching, musicians from all over Davao featuring Lucas, Baby Boomers, All Mix Band, and Escape Plan Juliet set the vibe with songs mixing influences from authentic Pinoy rock to other indie and alternative genres. In addition to the night a display of visual art from different genres was set up by artists Kevin Becira, Paolo Ramirez and Alduane MaƱo.

Almost instantly upon walking in you can feel the air chill you down as the lights and set up truly manifest the ideal ‘underground scene.’ Immediately, the scenes that catch your eye are the team members scrambling around, the baristas busy serving brews and the sight of an awesome crowd making the environment solid. This made Saturday Sound Sketch feel like a real get away from the stress of life – it’s a place to kick back and absorb the ambiance of the night. With the crowd present, it honestly felt like a night one can stay in forever. Each band brought great energy showing a genuine passion for their compositions and the spirit of music.

The LIEU team made a great set up of stage using clips of their time, effort, and just the small things they do to keep pushing out the Davao culture. You could really feel the passion and inspiration of their work as frames fly clip by clip. It was an amazing complement to the set of each of the musicians on stage putting an exclamation point to the true Davao underground scene.

LIEU’s success of the night brought home some new fans as after the gig, I was able to get feedback from some of the audience. Amy Carpio quoted that, “Honestly tonight felt like an absolute release, it was a really fun night and I can’t wait for the next event.” Justin Villacorta and Kim Ordona gave it two thumbs up with Kim saying “I liked how everything came together in the night, from the stage to the people, and the energy of each band. It’s funny how their music inspires the inner poet in me I can’t wait to see more from LIEU.”

That chapter of LIEU ends however another opens. The promise of more of Davao’s culture scene keeps Dabawenyos looking out for the LIEU crew for what they could pull out their sleeves next.
