ART IN THE DARK: An Earth Hour Art Competition


WHO: Groups of artists—either college students or professionals—with three to five members
WHAT: An art competition in honor of Earth Hour, for the benefit of the Davao City Water District’s Adopt-a-Site Program
WHEN: March 29, 2014; 3:00-6:00 p.m. (live painting), 6:30 p.m. (judging), 8:30 p.m. (awarding)
WHERE: Abreeza Mall Boardwalk (live painting) and Restaurant Row (judging and awarding)
WHY: Because it is your duty as a citizen of this planet to use your talents to make small yet significant changes for the Earth. Also, because it will be fun.

PRIZES
Grand Winner: P15,000 in cash*
1st Runner-Up: P10,000 in cash*
2nd Runner-Up: P5,000 in cash*
Lights-Out Award (a special prize to be awarded to the group whose entry stands out the most during lights off at Earth Hour): P2,000 worth electronic gift certificate
Consolation prizes to be given to non-winning groups
*A portion of the prize winnings of the Grand Winner, 1st Runner-Up, and 2nd Runner-Up will be donated to the DCWD Adopt-a-Site Program

CONTEST MECHANICS

• The contest is open to groups of artists—either college students or professionals—with three to five (3 to 5) members. A maximum of fifteen (15) groups will be accommodated.
• The contest will be limited to canvas painting, with each group painting on a 3 ft. x 3 ft. canvas.
• Each entry must have a significant meaning relative to Earth Hour.
• Each entry must have a title.
• Participants are encouraged, but not required, to inject a glow-in-the-dark element to their artworks for a chance to win the Lights-Out Award, a special prize that goes to the group whose entry stands out the most when lights go off at Earth Hour.
• All costs on materials must be shouldered by the participants, apart from the canvas and frame, which will be provided by Abreeza Mall for uniformity.
• Participants may start painting at the Boardwalk at 3:00 p.m. on March 29, 2014.
• All artworks must be finished by 6:00 p.m. and must then be set up for display at the Restaurant Row for judging.
• Judging will begin at the Restaurant Row at 6:30 p.m.
• A separate judging for the Lights-Out Award will take place at 8:30 p.m. when the lights go off for Earth Hour.
• Winners will be announced during Earth Hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Creativity and Originality: 20%
Design, Composition, and Technique: 30%
Relevance to Earth Hour: 30%
Overall Impact: 20%
