Heneral Luna Goes Nationwide On September 9

Heneral Luna, the much awaited historicial epic movie directed by award-winning filmmaker, Jerrold Tarog, opens in theaters nationwide on September 9, 2015.

Produced by Artikulo Uno Productions, the film follows the life of one of Philippine history’s most brilliant military men, General Antonio Luna, as he tries to lead his countrymen against colonial masters new and old.

The cast is led by John Arcilla (Metro Manila, The Bourne Legacy), who memorably portrays the unsung Filipino hero. He is joined by some of the country’s renowned film, television and theatre actors: Joem Bascon, Archie Alemania, Paulo Avelino, Ketchup Eusebio, Epy Quizon, Mon Confiado, Nonie Buencamino, Art Acuña, Ronnie Lazaro, Mylene Dizon, and Bing Pimentel.

Melissa Claire Barrera said, “More than just a historical piece, the film also explores how most Filipinos define heroism, whether the type of heroism we learn from history books is accurate, and how we can redefine heroism in the modern age. Director Jerrold Tarog brillantly created an honest and realistic story about Heneral Antonio Luna’s heroism, a man who was not well liked, who made a lot of unpopular decisions, but is nevertheless, a true hero. We, all can learn a lot from watching this film.”

A special 15-minute preview and trailer of the film, Heneral Luna, has been making the rounds in schools all over the country, along with forums regarding Filipino history and modern day heroism. In Davao, forums were held in Ateneo de Davao, Philippine Women’s College and Holy Cross of Davao with thousands of students in attendance.
