Anne Mendoza, one of Davao's best alternative bands, let out a surprise at this month's PANAGTIPON: Curated Presentations at Silingan. They will be releasing their band's first EP entitled Aurora on June.

The details about the up coming launch of the EP will have to be announced soon, but for now let's listen to "Hourglass" which will be a track included in the EP.

Bakunawa Moonlandings: “Higher Grounds Horizons” is an event organized by the BuwanBuwan Collective, and is headed to Davao for a quick stop. Davao City will be the first leg of the tour, which is aimed at spreading awareness and knowledge about the history of beat music in the country and how Filipino culture influenced the uprising of this new style of music.

The event will consist of two parts: The first part of the event will be held on October 18, 2013, 9pm at Albertino’s Bar and Resto (near SM Ecoland), and will also feature the launching of LIEU Online Magazine’s 6th Issue. The Second part will be held at Apo View Hotel’s Blue Room at 9pm, the following day.

BuwanBuwan is a traditional Filipino game that enacts the lunar eclipse. Players draw a circle on the ground representing the moon, and must stay inside this circle. Meanwhile, one player acts as the Bakunawa, the mythical giant sea serpent who would eat the moon: he may not enter the circle, but must touch another player who is inside it in order to switch places.

BuwanBuwan has been all but forgotten by a generation of young, Filipino urbanites weaned on gadgets and mass media, but BuwanBuwan, a Pinoy beatmakers and electronic musicians collective, appropriate the concept of a game they in fact never played as children, transforming it into a framework for their perpetual creative exchanges, a take-off point for defining their indentity as Filipino artists, and above all, a common ground where they can all play.

Inspired by TV series Glee and the movie Pitch Perfect comes that same performance and show choir in a Philippine context –Gleetenista ’13.

Gleetenista, spearheaded by the Red Republic Productions, will be the first show-choir competition in Davao that will mark another meaningful event and soon be inline along with other recognized fun events of Ateneo de Davao University.

The event will showcase mainly Ateneo students whose talents are singing and dancing. This is to promote OPM music and highlight the creativity and the nationalistic character of the youth.

There will be seven groups back-to-back giving there all-out support for Filipino music: G-Harmonics from the Accountancy, Acafalcons from the Natural Science and Mathematics, Tisa from the School of Education, The Echoes from the Computer Science, Timbrewolves from the Humanitites and Letters, SEA Octaves from the School of Engineering and Architecture, and Arrhythmias from the School of Nursing.

Aside from creating an avenue for the Ateneo students to showcase talents in singing and dancing, the Red Republic Productions will also be extending their efforts to help the children who are experiencing cancer. Proceeds from the Gleetenista ’13 event will go to the kids of House of Hope.

What could be a better way to raise social awareness if not through music? MTV EXIT is the world’s largest behaviour change campaign in the fight against human trafficking and exploitation. MTV Exit aims to bring the Davao People together to a single stage where the truth about human trafficking and exploitation through documentaries and good music.

MTV EXIT also produced a new Korean series called Butterfly, which will be screened on September 19 at the Cinematheque (Palma Gil, St., Davao City).
