The Mandaya Need Your Thumbmarks

We featured farm-to-table initiative Balik Bukid Farm & Kitchen a while back in our Issue No 12. Since then, Balik Bukid has become its own brand of cool with art and music events in tow.

These days, Balik Bukid is busy with their recently launched fundraising campaign, "Thumbs Up for the Mandaya". The campaign aims to renovate the makeshift classrooms that cater to the Mandaya community in Nagas Primary School in Brgy. Tomoaong, Tarragona, Davao Oriental – which is also the fertile nesting grounds of the Philippine Eagle. The people behind the Philippine Eagle Foundation swoop in behind the campaign to rally the idea that to help the Philippine Eagle, it's best to also help those who live alongside it.

For every PhP10.00 that you donate to the dual cause, you can affix your thumb mark to the TREE OF LIFE artwork hung inside the restaurant. Every donation goes to the P80,000 target fund for the campaign.

Chef Paolo Garcia also lends his talents to the campaign by launching the Kesong Puti Salad, Morcon Pasta, and the delectable dessert, Eagle's Nest. A portion of the sales from the ala carte or set menu items will go to the fundraiser.

The organizers hope to find a once leafless tree in full bloom by the end of the fundraising event this September.

Balik Bukid is located at Quimpo Blvd., Davao City. To know more about the fundraiser and how you can help, you can call (082) 269-4543 or text 09085470950 / 09157221077
